So many pregnant women are scared and nervous not only of giving birth but how to manage with a baby. This is such a shame and it wasn’t always this way. Way back, when we lived in basic communities, by the time we had a baby, we would have seen and helped with so much being born, we would have listened to stories, been given advice around the campfire, and birthed our baby without fear. The problem with modern-day, is many of us have never seen a baby being born let alone helped with the process, and many new parents have never held a newborn before holding their own.
So I help parents go ‘back to instincts’. We simply have to re-learn what our bodies already know. We have to trust ourselves, trust our bodies to do exactly what they’re designed to do. We are a result of thousands of women who successfully gave birth. By the same token, when it comes to parenting, we have to listen to our instincts before turning to the books. We have to learn how to turn our attention inside and how to listen to the wisdom within.
I combine this (what’s often considered more ‘hippy’) aspect of my beliefs with very practical information and advice on breastfeeding, the ‘essentials’, and how not to get sucked into the consumer trap. I remember Googling ‘what to buy’ when I had a baby. Believe you me, most of that stuff is completely unnecessary, and as a new mother there are so many companies preying on your desire to give your baby the ‘very best’. Ignore them! The best things you can give a baby (after meeting basic needs) is skin to skin and eye contact.
